Judy Hausman Callahan, devoted wife, mother and lifelong culinary magician, passed away on September 12, 2013. Her passion for life, her gift of conversation and her quiet elegance will be truly missed. Through her brief battle with cancer, she was in the constant, loving, care of her best friend and husband of 49 years, Sam. Judy had two true callings: loving her family and creating incredible meals. While she may have shared some of her recipes, the dishes never turned out quite like hers because only she had the secret ingredient..her love.
Born in Brownsville, she always found beauty in being outdoors. From being at the fish tank in Eagle Pass, to the shores at Rock Port, to the beaches of Padre Island, she enjoyed being outdoors with Sam. Her sense of adventure took her on trips all over the country, some by motorcycle. Her savvy business sense gave new energy to the family businesses S. X. Callahan, Inc. and Poquito Mas Enterprises. She was a force of nature in a petite frame.
She will be missed by her husband Sam, her sons Sam Jr. and Patrick, her daughters-in-law Ann and Erin, her sister Marilyn Howard, her grandchildren Hunter, Pamela, Samantha and Rose, her extended family and her many close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Monroe and Mae Hausman and sister Janet Askins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial contributions be made to the -San Antonio Chapter.
To honor her wishes, the family had a private service at Sunset Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
